Scholarship Information

Through many generous donations on the international, sectional, and chapter level, the 99s offer a wide variety of scholarships. Our Columbia Cascade chapter is proud to support our members when applying for these scholarships. In the last three years our Chapter has been awarded $63,000 to help our 99s achieve their flying goals. Michele Ewing is our wonderful scholarship chair and has helped each recipient tremendously.

First Wings Award Applications Deadlines are April 1 and October 1 Annually

  • Applicants must be Student Pilot Members for three months prior to the First Wings submission deadline and have logged five hours flight time within the preceding six months. Award is up to $6,000 for specific milestones as they are achieved. Instructions and application are available in the Members Only area.

AE Scholarship Application Deadline is January 1 Annually
There are five separate Amelia Earhart Memorial Scholarship applications to accommodate the most common types of requests

  • Flight Training Scholarship
    Up to $20,000 to complete an additional pilot certificate or rating or pilot training course. Examples: Multi-engine rating, commercial certificate, King Air competency or qualification training or Boeing 737 type rating.

  • Academic Scholarship
    Up to $10,000 scholarship towards one year of a college degree in aviation or aerospace. Students may re-apply for continuing support through graduation. Examples: Associate's, Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctoral degree in fields such as aerospace engineering, aviation business management, air traffic management, or professional pilot. Note: Flight training may be included if integral to curriculum.

  • Technical Training Scholarship
    Up to $20,000 scholarship to complete an aviation or aerospace technical training or certification course. Examples: ATP CTP, Airframe and/or Powerplant Mechanic certificate, Dispatcher certificate, Air Traffic Control training program, government or manufacturer's safety training, specialized training or certification course. Note: Excludes any flight training and any technical training that is part of a college degree program.

  • Vicki Cruse Memorial Scholarship for Emergency Maneuver Training
    Fully paid scholarship to provide emergency maneuver and spin training in addition to an introduction to aerobatics. In memory of 99 Vicki Cruse, an internationally known aerobatic pilot, this scholarship is available to any licensed pilot member of The 99s without regard to existing ratings, financial need or length of membership. Patty Mitchell Northwest Section Scholarship

Application Due Date: March 15, 2024
Award Announcement: April 1, 2024, or at the Spring Board of Directors Meeting
Brief Description: To support women pilots in the continued pursuit of aeronautical skills, both professionally and recreationally.
-- Any Ninety-Nines member seeking to increase proficiency or regain currency by adding a new rating or certificate by participating in a defined training activity, e.g., instrument training, seaplane, tail wheel, mountain flying, aerobatics.
-- This scholarship IS available to student pilots for initial flight training in obtaining their private pilot certificate. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
